John Haymaker AIA, PhD, LEED ap is a licensed architect with 20 years of experience as a designer, builder, and researcher. John earned bachelor's and master's degrees in architecture (Universities of Michigan and Illinois), a master's in design computation (MIT), and a PhD in civil engineering (Stanford University).

Before founding DPI, John was a professor at Stanford University where he taught and led a multidisciplinary team of architectural, structural, mechanical, construction, and management and computer science researchers. John has worked on many project types including residential, commercial, government, institutional, high-rise, healthcare, high-speed rail, urban development, and civil infrastructure.

RossDrulisCusenbery specializes in the planning, programming and design of modern law enforcement, justice, public safety, emergency operations and communications buildings. RDC is currently seeking an experienced project architect with strong technical and management skills to join a team in place. Position requirements include:

Responsibilities: Design, coordinate and assemble complete sets of contract documents utilizing Revit software • Work collaboratively with RDC principals and project teams • Coordinate multiple aspects of client, engineer, sub-consultant and general contractor relationships • Review, coordinate and incorporate the work of structural, MEP, lighting, AV, landscape, civil and other consultants • Manage project scope, schedule and budget requirements • Resolve complex technical building assembly, enclosure, waterproofing and design issues • Develop and maintain the project manual and specifications • Conduct and document on-site observations • Process during construction submittals, RFIs, substitution requests and shop drawings • Interface with building and permitting officials during the permitting and construction phases of the project

Qualifications: •10+ years of relevant experience as a project architect, with a strong background in construction • Revit and AutoCAD experience required • 3D rendering and visualization skills a plus • Knowledge of building codes, standards and building structures • Ability to understand how buildings are constructed and to create technical details and documents that succinctly describe the project • Strong leadership, organizational, communication and relationship management skills • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field • CA Architectural license required and LEED accreditation a plus.

Incorporating photovoltaics into your next building can present great opportunities for energy savings without detracting from architectural design solutions or a building’s appearance. But how you start the BIPV design process, determine what building products should be considered, sizing up systems, obtaining green building credits, and securing financial opportunities for your client are but just a few of the challenges architects will face in navigating the integrated photovoltaic design process.

Presenters Steve Sheldon and Chris Phipps shall provide participants an introduction to building integrated photovoltaics for both residential and non-residential projects. Participants shall gain practical insight and understanding of the BIPV design process, and have an opportunity to ask questions pertaining to designing and specifying products within this rapidly expanding marketplace.

Steve Sheldon is a founding partner and architect at IBIS Builds, a company that specializes in green development. Recent completed projects include the Florence Lofts, a LEED Gold Certified mixed-use development in Sebastopol, California, and Lyding Commons, a live/work community.

Chris Phipps is the Vice President of Marketing for DC Power Systems headquartered in Sonoma Mountain Village. DC Power Systems is a national full-service wholesale distributor of renewable energy products including building integrated photovoltaics.
