Walking home from school, I’d take the routes that brought me by the construction sites. I’d stop and watch, I was in awe of the building process. the genius of the carpenters and the geometry of a wooden frame. On weekends, I’d raid their scrap piles and build. After a tour of duty in the Navy, where I maintained and operated (trained naval pilots) on TA-4 flight simulators, I began a career in the field of construction. I worked as a carpenter, sub-contractor and construction supervisor. I have over 20 years of construction experience, mostly residential, with some light commercial, across Northern California, and a little industrial work experience in the Southern United States. I consider myself a craftsman and the quality of my work is a source of pride. Around 1998, I began to develop some symptoms of arthritis; I decided to return to school and complete my education. Before school, I loved building, while in school, I began to understand and love architecture. To me, architecture is the embodiment of my interest: economy, art, science, history, and culture. Now, my love of building is only surpassed by my love for the practice of architecture. I graduated with a B arch from the Fay Jones school of Architecture at the University of Arkansas in 2009. The spring before my last year of school, I began an internship at Pb2 Architecture and Engineering. Because of economic conditions, I kept my position at Pb2 while completing my education, working full time at both. I am now nearing the end of my third year as an Intern and soon I will become eligible for the ARE and licensure. At Pb2, I am a project manager in the Western division of our firm. I have overseen and coordinated projects in California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. I am responsible for code compliance and the accuracy and detailing of our construction documents. I respond to RFIs and AHJ review comments. At Pb2, we are a production focused firm. I have acquired quite a bit of Big Box experience; however, I also have experience managing Grocery and Restaurant project types as well. I am now 34 months into my internship. In my short career, I have achieved the position of Senior Project Manager and survived several company downsizings. Pb2, once having over 400 employees, now, has 145. The firm went from 4 offices to 1. I think my position and employment status, speaks to my ability and the value Pb2 holds for me as an employee. I am currently managing 8 projects, all, in various stages of production. I appreciate your discreetness with Pb2. My goal is to move Northern California, to live and work near my family and friends for the rest of my life; but, above all, practice real architecture. I am smart, dependable, and enthusiastic. I have a proven track record for producing a quality product on time and budget. I would be a great asset to your firm. Thank you again for this opportunity, Regards, William Britt Associate AIA 204 Paul Pray Drive Fayetteville Arkansas 479-799-9384 wbritt59@gmail.com
